For the past eight weeks on this blog, I’ve been looking back at the Harry Potter film franchise and ranking the five most iconic moments from each movie. With those articles now complete, I’ve decided to delve even deeper into the franchise and rank the eight most iconic moments in the entire Harry Potter series!

Check out my ranking below:

8. HERMIONE & HAGRID RETURN – HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS

Harry Potter

When it comes to iconic moments in the Harry Potter movies, you won’t find anything better than the moment Hermione and Hagrid return to the Great Hall! After being petrified (Hermione) and sent to Azkaban Prison (Hagrid), it’s incredibly heartwarming and emotional to see these beloved characters return home to Hogwarts!

7. DUMBLEDORE VS. VOLDEMORT – HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX

Looking back at the entire Harry Potter series, there aren’t many moments or sequences that rival Voldemort and Dumbledore’s epic wand battle in Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix. Not only is this a visually stunning scene, it finally displays exactly how powerful the Wizarding World’s most famous wizards truly are!

6. DUMBLEDORE’S FALL – HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE

Most Iconic Moments In Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince

There were certainly some emotional character deaths before this one, as well as a few heartbreaking ones after, but the death of Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore is quite easily the most impactful and shocking character death in the entire Harry Potter series!

5. DOBBY SAVES THE DAY – HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS – PART 2

From Dumbledore to Sirius Black and even Hedwig, the Harry Potter series is full of heartbreaking character deaths, but Dobby the House Elf’s heroic and heart-wrenching sacrifice is one of the franchise’s best moments! Watching as Dobby sacrifices himself to save Harry, Ron and Hermione is utterly heart-wrenching, but it’s his final moments with Harry that truly bring the tears!

4. FLYING BUCKBEAK – HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN

When examining the most iconic moments in the Harry Potter series, it’s impossible to ignore the utterly beautiful and outrageously thrilling moment Harry and Buckbeak take flight over Hogwarts! 3. HARRY DEFEATS LORD VOLDEMORT – HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS – PART 2

The 5 Most Iconic Moments In ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - Part 2’ - Harry Defeats Voldemort

It shouldn’t come as a massive surprise to find that Harry and Voldemort’s epic showdown, which results in Harry defeating his lifelong adversary and saving the Wizarding World, lands near the top of this list! Seeing Harry and the Dark Lord go head-to-head is nothing short of perfect, with J.K. Rowling and director David Yates delivering a final battle worthy of the Harry Potter series!

2. HARRY AND VOLDEMORT DUEL – HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE

After finally coming face-to-noseless-face with his arch-nemesis, Harry conjures enough bravery to fight Lord Voldemort, even though he knows it will probably cost him his life. Watching Harry step-out from behind Tom Riddle’s grave is arguably the series’ most inspiring moment, as it shows exactly how courageous and heroic Harry is, even in the face of death.

Some movie scenes are so magical (pun intended) that they almost feel like they belong to us as individuals. Seeing Harry look up at Hogwarts Castle for the first time, as we as an audience get our first glimpse, is unquestionably one of the most iconic and beautiful scenes in recent cinematic history.
