The Harry Potter series might centre around the witches and wizards of Hogwarts and beyond, but the series also finds the time to introduce some truly terrifying and badass magical creatures! From Dragons and Giant Spiders to Pixies and Trolls, the Wizarding World is home of some of the most intriguing, entertaining and genuinely terrifying creatures in the entire fantasy genre.
For our latest post on The Blog That Must Not Be Named, we’ve decided to shine a light on some of the Wizarding World‘s most terrifying creatures, ranking the ten scariest magical monsters from worst to best! While the movies do a good enough job of introducing some of the creatures from J.K. Rowling’s books, the novels feature a great many more magical creatures – especially when it comes to the terrifying variety. For this list, however, we’re looking at all corners of the Wizarding World, including the Harry Potter books, movies and the Fantastic Beasts films.

10. Trolls
The scariest creatures don’t always have to be the smartest! While Trolls aren’t the most intelligent or powerful creatures in thew Wizarding World, their immense strength and repulsive smell makes them worth being afraid of.
9. Inferius
What could possibly be scarier than a dead body that has been bewitched to do a dark witch or wizards bidding!?! These zombie-like creatures, which made an appearance in Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, are among some of the darkest and most terrifying Wizarding World creatures.
8. Boggart
While we still don’t know what a Boggart’s true form looks like, which actually makes them a million times scarier, their ability to take the form of your greatest fear makers them immensely more terrifying than many creatures in the Wizarding World.
7. Obscurus
This magical parasite, which forms when a witch or wizard surpresses their magical abilities, is one of the most destructive, powerful and downright terrifying creatures in the entire Wizarding World. Only time will tell how powerful these creatures truly are!
6. Dragons
Dragons haven’t caused a great deal of trouble for Harry and our other heroes over the years, but the magestic beasts have more than proved themselves to be one of the most ferocious and badass creatures in the Wizarding World.
5. Merpeople
if you’re looking for the scariest magical creatures, it’s impossible to ignore the Merpeople! These half-human, half-fish hybrids are without question one of the most dangerous and terrifying creatures in the Wizarding World.
4. Werewolves
Werewolves are one of the most iconic creatures in folklore and pop-culture, but the Wizarding World manages to make these bloodthirsty and uncontrollable beasts even more horrifying!
3. Dementors
With their ragged cloaks and ghostly movements, the Dementors of Azkaban are undoubtedly one of the Wizarding World‘s most haunting and beautifully terrifying magical creatures!
2. The Basilisk
If you think a muggle snake is worth screaming over, it’s nothing compared to the Wizarding World‘s Basilisk! This incredibly large and viscous snake makes some of the other creatures on this list seem downright adorable.
1. Aragog and his children
When it comes to the scariest creatures in the Wizarding World, nothing compares to the Acromantula. The horrifyingly large spiders are enough to keep even the bravest witches and wizards awake for a lifetime!
