Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone just passed a major box-office milestone!
Almost twenty years after the film originally landed in cinemas, the iconic first film in the Harry Potter film series has officially passed $1 billion at the worldwide box-office! Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone (also known as Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone) was able to cross the coveted milestone thanks to a recent 3D and IMAX re-release in China.
Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone is now the second film in the Harry Potter series to gross over $1 billion, joining the final film in the series – Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 2.
“We are thrilled to see ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ delight a new generation of audiences,” said Andrew Cripps, Warner Bros. Pictures’ head of international distribution. “The popularity of the film with moviegoers in China, who are discovering it for the first time, proves that the appeal of these stories is truly timeless and universal.”
