Warner Bros.’ upcoming Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy, was quite easily one of the most exciting Wizarding World announcements in recent years. While the game has been long-rumoured and talked about for what feels like forever, yesterdays announcement was enough to make any Potterhead giggle with excitement.
Now that Hogwarts Legacy has been officially announced, we’ve collected everything we know about the upcoming game and dropped it below!
WHEN WILL HOGWARTS LEGACY BE RELEASED?
While Hogwarts Legacy has been in development for a number of years, the game still doesn’t have an official release date! During the announcement, Warner Bros. revealed that the game will land at some point in 2021, but we still don’t have an exact release date.

WHAT IS THE PLOT AND SETTING OF HOGWARTS LEGACY?
Hogwarts Legacy will reportedly take players on an epic-scale wizarding adventure, but as far as the plot is concerned, we’re unfortunately still in the dark.
To help us answer this question, however, we’ve found the official synopsis for the game:
“Experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. You have received a late acceptance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and soon discover that you are no ordinary student: you possess an unusual ability to perceive and master Ancient Magic. Only you can decide if you will protect this secret for the good of all, or yield to the temptation of more sinister magic.”
“Discover the feeling of living at Hogwarts as you make allies, battle Dark wizards, and ultimately decide the fate of the wizarding world. Your legacy is what you make of it.”

IS THERE AN OFFICIAL TRAILER FOR HOGWARTS LEGACY?
Hell yeah! Alongside the official announcement, a cinematic reveal trailer was released for Hogwarts Legacy! The trailer, which you can watch for yourself below, gives us an incredible look at the upcoming Harry Potter game and teases an epic-scale wizarding adventure!
WHAT STUDIO IS DEVELOPING THE GAME?
Proving the rumours to be true, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that Avalanche Software is developing Hogwarts Legacy! Best known for its work on the Disney Infinity games, this will be the first release for Avalanche Software since 2017’s Cars 3: Driven to Win.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PLAY HOGWARTS LEGACY?
The official website for Hogwarts Legacy reveals that the game will be available to play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. So, the good news is that you don’t need to go out of your way to buy one of the new PlayStation and Xbox consoles to explore the Wizarding World!
