The third instalment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise will no longer land in theatres next year!
Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio behind the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films, revealed today that the film will not meet its previous release date of November 12, 2021. It is now expected to land in the Summer of 2022, although an exact release date has not been confirmed.
The studio made the announcement as part of a larger statement revealing that Johnny Depp, who portrays dark wizard Gellertt Grindelwald, has agreed to walk away from the franchise. Depp said, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request.” The news comes just days after the actor lost his libel case against The Sun over a 2018 article alleging he was a βwife beater.β
The still untitled third Fantastic Beasts film is currently in production, and the role of Gellert Grindelwald will be recast!
