Live-Action Harry Potter Series In Development For HBO Max

It looks like the Wizarding World is making its way to the small screen!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a live-action Harry Potter series is in early development at HBO Max. Sources have told THR that executives at the streaming service have already had “multiple conversations” with potential writers and are currently exploring ideas that would bring the Wizarding World franchise to the small screen. “There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform,” HBO Max and Warner Bros. said in a response to THR.

While it’s undoubtedly exciting to hear that a live-action Harry Potter series is in development, we must note that no deals have been made and no one is currently attached to a project. THR states that while a show is being developed, discussions are in the extremely early stages. Even though the studio denied reports that a show is in development, we feel it would be foolish to ignore a report from a highly reputable outlet like The Hollywood Reporter.

It’s hardly surprising to learn that Warner Bros. wants to expand the Wizarding World franchise, as the property is one of the studios’ most valuable properties. If they have any hope of competing with the likes of Disney Plus and Netflix, they’ll need to take advantage of their biggest money-makers, as Disney did by bringing the Star Wars and Marvel franchise’s to the platform.

If a live-action Harry Potter series is in development for HBO Max, which story/character would you like it to focus on? Let us know in the commens section below!
