Harry Potter: 5 Things Only Book Readers Will Know About Hermione Granger

J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series is full of colourful, complex and wonderfully terrifying characters, with the author creating some of the most iconic heroes and villains in the entire fantasy genre. When it comes to the most iconic, beloved and memorable characters that the Wizarding World has to offer, there’s no denying that Hermione Granger is one of the best of the best! As a member of the Golden Trio (Harry, Ron and Hermione), Hermione Granger is one of the most fleshed-out characters that the Harry Potter series delivers – and the film franchise did an incredible job of bringing Hermione to the big screen! With that said, some of Hermione’s greatest moments didn’t make it into the movies.

While Hermione is one of the Harry Potter series’ central characters, along with Harry and Ron, there’s still an incredible amount of information that fans of the movies won’t know about the character. For our latest post on The Blog That Must Not Be Named, we’re ranking five details that only fans of ther books will know about the brightest witch of her age, Hermione Granger!

5 – She Was Nearly Placed In Ravenclaw

Anyone who has read/watched any of the Harry Potter books and movies will know that Hermione Granger is a Gryffindor through and through. While talking to Terry Boot in Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, however, Hermione reveals that the Sorting Hat seriously considered putting her into Ravenclaw during the sorting ceremony, but decided that Gryffindor was a better fit. It’s hard to imagine what the Harry Potter series would look like, or what would have happened to the Wizarding World, if the Sorting Hat had put Hermione into Ravenclaw instead of Gryffindor.

4 – She Got 11 O.W.L.S.

The Harry Potter movies certainly show that Hermione is the brightest witch of her age, with the young witch succeeding in almost all of her classes. In the movies, however, we never find out what Harry, Ron or Hermione achieved in their exams! In one of the opening chapters of Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, we learn that Hermione earned a whopping 11 O.W.L.S. As for her specific results, Hermione achieved 10 Outstandings and one Exceeds Expectations. Hermione being Hermione chooses to focus solely on the Exceeds Expectations result.

3 – She Campaigned For House-Elf Equality

In the book version of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, Hermione is appalled when she learns about the Wizarding World‘s treatment of house-elves. The young witch founds a student society that she names S.P.E.W., which stands for for Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare. For the remainder of the Harry Potter book series, Hermione stands-up for house-elves like Dobby, Winky and Kreacher – believing that they should be paid and treated equally. While most don’t agree with Hermione’s mission, including the house-elves she is attempting to free, she continues to fight for elf equality.

2 – She Stole From Dumbledore’s Office

Following Dumbledore’s death at the end of Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, Hermione and Ron agree to go with Harry to hunt-down the rest of Voldemort’s Horcruxes. Knowing that they need to understand more about Horcruxes and how they can be destroyed, Hermione uses a spell to conjure all of Dumbledore’s books on Horcruxes, which the Headmaster had removed from the Hogwarts library.

1 – She Nearly Died In The Order Of The Phoenix

To say how much danger they find themselves in throughout the Harry Potter series, Harry, Ron and Hermione almost always walk away unharmed. In the Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix book, however, Hermione is almost killed by one of Voldemort’s Death Eaters. During the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, a Death Eater named Antonin Dolohov hits Hermione with an unknown curse, slashing her with purple flames across the chest. Hermione falls the the ground unconcious and seriously injured, but thankfully alive.
