The Batman: A Standalone Catwoman Spin-Off Has Been Discussed

Matt Reeves has been very open about his plans to build a new Batman universe out of The Batman, with multiple projects already in development at HBO Max. The director has now revealed that more spin-offs could be on the way, including one focusing on Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman.

Speaking to CBR.com at a recent press conference, Reeves revealed that more The Batman spin-offs are possible and stated that he’s talked to HBO Max about a Catwoman spin-off starring Kravitz.

“I’ve talked to the HBO Max folks,” the director and co-writer said. “What we’re really trying to do is to launch this world. If the world embraces this, we have a lot of ideas for things we want to do, and for sure we want Selena to continue.”

Reeves went on to discuss how important Bruce and Selena’s relationship is to the Batman, describing it as the heart of the movie. “Their relationship and what they are to each other… to me, that’s the heart of the movie, is the push-pull between the two of them and the way that she’s going to evolve, and where all of that will go.”

Looking at all of the trailers and promotional material, it’s clear that Selena Kyle/Catwoman will have a more prominent role in Reeves’ The Batman than the character has had in previous Batman films. As for a standalone catwoman project, it seems Warner Bros. is choosing to wait and see how The Batman performs before making any further moves.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Selena Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Detective Jim Gordon, Colin Farrell as Penguin and Andy Serkis as Alfred.
