Percy Jackson: Walker Scobell Cast In Upcoming Disney+ Series

Prepare yourself Percy Jackson fans, we have some exciting news about Disney Plus’ upcoming Percy Jackson And The Olympians series.

After a lengthy search, Disney Plus has announced that The Adam Project star Walker Scobell will portray the titular character in the highly-anticipated Percy Jackson reboot series. The 13-year-old actor will portray Percy in the latest adaptation of the five-part book series written by author Rick Riordan.

The Percy Jackson book series follows a 12-year-old boy who learns that he is a demigod. He’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Now Percy must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus.

Rick Riordan announced Walker’s casting in a blog post, saying: “It was obvious to me and the rest of the team that Walker had the perfect mix of comedic timing, sweetness, rebelliousness, snark and heroism to embody our hero Percy Jackson.”

Disney Plus started to develop a new adaptation of the Percy Jackson in 2020, with the studio finally giving the project the green light earlier this year. Riordon is heavily involved with the development of the Disney+ adaptation, acting as a co-writer and executive producer on the series. The series will begin with an adaptation of Riordon’s first book, Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief.

The Disney Plus series won’t be the first adaptation of the Percy Jackson books, although it may be the first to accurately adapt the story. 20th Century Fox previously adapted the first two books in the series, both of which starred Logan Lerman as the titular character, although Percy’s big-screen adventures didn’t find the same level of success as the books. Fans of the books loudly voiced their dislike of the movies, with even Riordon criticising the way 20th Century Fox adapted his work.

Filming on the Percy Jackson And The Olympians series will begin this summer. An official premiere date still hasn’t been announced, although it’s fair to say that we’ll be watching Percy’s adventures on Disney Plus sooner rather than later.

Rick Riordon completed his update to fans with: “More news soon, demigods, but please give Walker a huge Camp Half-Blood welcome. He is going to surpass your highest expectations from the very first line of the show.”
