Warning: This post contains major spoilers for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness has finally landed in cinemas, with director Sam Raimi offering his horror-focused take on the character. As I said in my spoiler-free review, which you can read here, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness gives fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe everything that they want, without giving them everything that they expect.
While it might not walk and talk like a standard Marvel movie, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness still gives fans everything they’ve come to expect from a Marvel Cinematic Universe, including not one but two post-credits scenes.
Here’s what happens after the credits roll on Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness…
The first post-credits scene opens with Strange walking in New York, when he is interrupted by Charlize Theron (in a rather colourful and badass costume) who emerges from a literal tear in the universe. She tells Strange that his actions in The Multiverse Of Madness caused an Incursion in her universe, and she needs his help to fix it. Strange, who seems all together too comfortable with people popping through holes in the universe, switches from his day clothes into his superhero outfit (including a new third eye) and follows Theron’s new character into what looks like the Dark Dimension aka. the home of Dormammu.
If you keep an eye on the credits, you’ll see that Theron’s mystery character is in fact Clea – a character Marvel comics fans will be extremely excited to meet. While I won’t pretend to know everything (or anything) about Clea, a quick Google search revealed that we just met Strange’s future bride. Even more than that, Clea is a extremely powerful sorcery and the Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension.
The second post credits scene is one that will divide the Marvel fans from the Sam Raimi fans. The scene features Bruce Campbell as Pizza Poppa, a character that appeared in a small but memorable scene in the movie. For those that don’t already know, Campbell has an extremely close working relationship with Raimi and has appeared in almost all of the filmmakers projects. Earlier in the film, Strange placed a spell on the Pizza Poppa, causing him to repeatedly punch himself in the face. Strange walks away, telling America Chaves that the spell should ware off in about three weeks. In the post credits scene, we return to the Pizza Poppa some time later, where he finally stops hitting himself. Looking directly at the camera, the Pizza Poppa yells “It’s over!” as the scene cuts to black.
