Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Hemsworth has hinted that Thor: Love And Thunder might be his final outing as the iconic superhero.
During a Q&A with Wired, Hemsworth revealed that while he found Thor: Love And Thunder to be a “wild” and “fun” experience, it might be his final Marvel movie. “Well the last [Marvel movie] I shot was ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and it might be my last Marvel movie, I don’t know,” Hemsworth said. “It was a wild and fun and wacky experience, as all Taika Waititi movies are. Played that character for ten, eleven, years now, and each time it’s been new and exciting, and this was no exception to that. It felt very fresh and it felt like we were trying something we hadn’t tried before. I was, in Taika’s words, I think a wacky, wild, romantic comedy set in space.”
This isn’t the first time that the actor has considered ending his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hemsworth previously revealed that he almost walked away after Thor: The Dark World, but was persuaded to return by Taika Waititi’s fresh approach to the character. Just to be clear, Hemsworth is far from officially announcing his exit as the God of Thunder. Later in the interview the actor stated that he loves playing Thor and would continue if it’s what fans want.
“I love playing Thor – played it for many many years and would continue to do so if people wanted me to,” Hemsworth says. “The most challenging part of playing Thor is reinventing it each time and not having it be predictable for an audience and having it be soemthing they’ve seen before… And that is a challenge but part of the fun.”
As far as we know, Marvel Studios currently has no plans for a fifth Thor movie.
