Christian Bale Reveals He Would Return As Batman On One Condition

While audiences will soon see Christian Bale as the comic-book villain Gorr the God Butcher in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love And Thunder, he is still regarded as one of the best actors to play a comic-book hero for his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. In a recent interview with Screenrant, Bale discussed what would need to happen for him to return as the iconic Caped Crusader.

While promoting Thor: Love And Thunder, in which he portrays the villainous Gorr the God Butcher, Christian Bale revealed that he has never been approached about reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman. That’s not to say that the actor would never consider a return, however, as he told Screenrant that he would suit-up again if director Christopher Nolan decided he had another story to tell. Read what Bale had to say below:

“No. No one’s ever mentioned it to me. No one’s brought it up. […] Occasionally people say to me, “Oh, I hear you were approached and offered all this.” And I’m like, “That’s news to me. No one’s ever said that.” I had a pact with Chris Nolan. We said, “Hey, look. Let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.” In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, “You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.” And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.”

While it’s a surprise to hear Bale say that he’d return to the role, I still wouldn’t expect it to happen anytime soon. Christopher Nolan is one of Hollywood’s busiest directors and it seems he’s more interested in producing his own original stories than working on blockbuster properties. Still, it’s exciting to hear that Bale hasn’t fully shut the door on returning as Batman.
