Warner Bros. Cancels ‘Batgirl’ Movie

In a shocking and unprecedented move, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel the upcoming Batgirl film – which was nearing the end of production. The film will not release theatrically or on HBO Max.

Batgirl, which starred In The Heights actress Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, was being directed by Bad Boys for Life and Ms. Marvel filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. As for why WB decided to kill the film, Deadline reports that sources say the film did not fall in line with the new strategy being implemented by DC Films as well as HBO Max.

According to reports the decision to kill Batgirl wasn’t driven by the quality of the film or the talent of the filmmakers and cast, but by the studios’ plan to make DC films blockbuster events. Batgirl, which was always planned for release on HBO Max, didn’t fit into that category.
