Think you know everything there is to know about Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Here are ten facts about the iconic castle.

“Whether you come back by page or by the big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.”— J. K. Rowling

Every Harry Potter fan in the world would kill for the chance to visit Hogwarts, the magical school where young students learn to become powerful witches and wizards. First introduced in Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone, Hogwarts is founded by four of the greatest witches and wizards of all-time (Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw & Salazar Slytherin), Hogwarts is one of the most mysterious locations in the Wizarding World. Despite the fact that young witches and wizards have spent centuries unlocking many of the castles secrets, there is still so much to be learned and understood about the school.

J.K. Rowling revealed a great deal about Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books, but there are still so many things that fans of the series might not know about the castle. Here are ten magical facts about Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry:

10. The castle has a whopping total of 142 staircases – most of which like to change at a moments notice.

9. Hogwarts has a unique grading system for students – O For Outstanding, E For Exceeds Expectations, A for Acceptable, P for Poor, D for Dreadful, and T for Troll

4. Muggle technology doesn’t work at Hogwarts. This is due to the interference from all that magic.

3. A magical book and quill is located at Hogwarts which detects when a child unlocks his/her/their magic. The quill will write the child’s name in the book when magic is detected. If the book thinks the child isn’t ready, it will slam closed.
